Interview with Alexis Harsh

Do you have any kids?
I have boy/girl twins, Wyatt and Evelyn, who are almost 3 years old.  Wyatt is my reserved and very caring spirited little man. Evelyn is sassy, likes to try and get her brother in trouble and gives the best hugs. They are the center of my universe and keep me grounded, always striving to better myself for them.

What is your most cherished possession?
I have an accordion folder hidden away in my closet. It is stuffed full of letters, scraps of paper and cards which my husband and I began giving each other starting when I was 12 years old.  Every so often I pull it down and read through remembering just how far we’ve come.

What has been your favorite wedding and why?
This is a tough one and I’m not sure in my long career I can pin point just one wedding. I often work with brides from the beginning of their engagement to the day before her wedding. We laugh, we talk for hours, we brainstorm, we get excited. It’s these women, sharing their thoughts and excitement at my table and becoming friends that I remember fondly. They know who they are…

If you could describe yourself in 2 words, what would they be?
Giving, Resilient

What is your favorite childhood memory?
My dad came home from work one day with a box of Junior Mints. He asked me to go on a walk with him. It was just me and him, sharing a box of Junior Mints, talking and sharing our day. It became a recurring event.

How did you get your start in the business?
I began my event career in Arizona, as an operations manager for corporate events. I moved home and fell in love with Watermark. After working at Watermark for just under a year, I took the reins as owner back in 2004 and haven’t looked back. My event experience has given me a design perspective which I share with my brides to create an overall theme and landscape. It’s not just about the invitation and response cards; it’s about all the little details that create and shape the flow of the event. Paper is a passion and once you get wrapped up in it, it carries you away with the possibilities. I’m one of those people who can honestly say, “I love my job”.
