Interview with Ashley Henry
What inspires you?
There is something in my life that I call perfect moments- you know the ones. When your car windows are down, the sun is shining, and your favorite song comes on the radio? Or if you just had an amazing meal and sit back and listen to your loved ones laughing? I strive to have as many of these moments as humanly possible in my life. That is where my inspiration comes from.
How did you get your start in the business? After graduating from college I fell into a job that wasn’t fulfilling for me. Around that same time my grandmother fell ill and was rapidly declining. I have always taken pride in calling myself a family orientated woman- and now was my time to prove it. I quit my job and took care of her full time, which was a HUGE job. She was completely bedridden. It was the biggest blessing in my life to date. I had ample time to come up with the innovative business model that Simply Elegant has, and I was able to spend my grandmothers last days by her side along with my amazing mother.
What’s your favorite vacation spot? I’m going to sound like such a dork… But I would have to say Disneyworld (Come on- deemed the happiest place on earth?? How can you not love that!?) I love feeling like a kid and running around being silly. The last time I was able to visit was with my niece and it was so incredible to watch her light up after going on a ride she enjoyed. We went on Space Mountain together (she was about 5 years old at the time!) And she CLUNG to my hand the whole time- such a trooper! But I have always been a bit of a goofball- and at Disney it’s not only accepted, I feel like it’s required! J Toy Story ride- HERE I COME!
What is your most cherished possession? I have a teddy bear that was given to me by my grandmother. He is pretty “loved on” by this point… My Gram was such an inspiration to me and still is to this day- it’s wonderful to have a little piece of her still with me in that teddy bear.
What is your motto or favorite quote to live by? A motto about success that I really have enjoyed lately is: Live with discipline. I feel that it works with everything in your life that you are hoping for success with: business goals, financial goals, health goals, the list is endless! Living with discipline is something that I am always trying to keep in mind! But sometimes life is just too fun…
If you could describe yourself in 2 words, what would they be? Warm- in both ways! I am always too warm! Strange I know. But this is why I love living in Minnesota. But also warm in the sense of being heartfelt and caring. People are the most important thing in the world to me and I am always striving to add value to others before I receive it in return. The second would be silly- I always try to carry a lighthearted attitude with me, but I have very deep relationships with the many people I keep close to me.

Interview with Jillian Wicht
If you could spend the day with one person, who would that be?
If I could meet one person and spend the day with them , I would chose David Tutera. He is everything that I hope I can one day be. Not only is he a phenomenal wedding planner, he is an amazing person. He gives SO much to people and that is so important. To me, planning a wedding is about making someones dreams come true, to exceed expectations, and to be not just a planner, but a friend. David is a perfect example of the ideal planner!
What do you love most about your job?
I have this unbelievable passion about weddings and events that inspire and drive me to not be the “cookie cutter” planner. I love making peoples dreams come true. I love saying yes when everyone else is saying no. I enjoy taking a very strange wedding theme (ex: leather and lace) and turning it into a gorgeous, elegant affair that has everyone speechless. I love watching the groom tear up as he sees his bride walk down the aisle. I am truly passionate about weddings. I will put blood, sweat, and tears into events that I plan to ensure your fairytale becomes a reality. Whether you have been planning your wedding since you were 5 years old pretending with your Barbies, or a 40 year old who has not the slightest idea whats “in” on the wedding front, I can guarantee I will be with you every step of the way. I’m much more then your wedding planner, I’m your friend.
How did you get your start in the business?
I started off planning all my friends birthdays, showers, bachelorette parties and weddings. People would always compliment me and would refer me to friends of friends. Soon I decided that wedding and event planning was really my passion. I also have this love for scrap-booking. I wanted to somehow incorporate scrapbooks into the planning process and that’s how Celebration Stories was created. My clients all receive this beautiful “wedding story”. It showcases everything from the couple dating, to the engagement, to the entire wedding planning process. Its a wonderful keepsake item that you can look back on and remember every aspect of your big day!
I graduated high school a year early with honors and went to college and received my Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice. After working in the field for about a year and a half, I decided that that line of work was not meant for me. I began to plan more and more events and became a part time driving instructor to fill in the free time I had. Soon, my schedule was becoming full of weddings and other events and Celebration Stories was born. I couldn’t be happier! I have planned 138 various weddings and events and look forward to planning 138 more!
Do you have Kids or Pets? Tell us about them.
I am 27 years old and currently live in Coon Rapids with my wonderful fiance, Sean and our two great kids. I have a beautiful 5 year old daughter named Skylar and a wonderful 10 year old step-son, Dade. We also have two furry children, a purebread German Shepherd named Kratos and a husky/shepherd mix named Ridik. We enjoy our weekly “family nights” and can be found cuddled up on the couch watching the latest 3D movie, building Lego creations or having Nerf wars!
Are you involved in Charity work?
Even though I plan tons of weddings and put 110% into everyone of them, my favorite weddings to plan are those thru charities. I recently planned and coordinated a wedding for a soldier who came home after a VERY long deployment. I am also a proud member of Wish Upon A Wedding. It is such a rewarding and fulfilling organization to be a part of! There are so many ways brides can help the less fortunate and really make someones day! I always give my clients ideas such as donating left over food to food-banks or donating their dresses to those battling breast cancer or my favorite, donating bouquets to elderly, terminally ill, or sick in the hospital. Its all about the simple things!

Interview with Amy Rubins
What inspires you?
People – I love the way they think and what motivates them to overcome challenges in their lives.
Who is the person you’d most like to meet or spend the day with and why?
Audrey Hepburn – she had a natural style and grace, which was evident on or off screen. She also had a compassion that knew no boundaries and volunteered her time to change the world, one child at a time.
How did you get your start in the business?
Working at a top country club in the area and learning everything there is about the operations side of banquets and large events.
What is the most unique wedding you’ve been a part of?
I had the privilege of planning a wedding with the fabulous people at Disney World. This was truly a magical experience and one I will never forget.
Do you have any kids? Tell us about them.
My husband and I have six kids all with a variety of interests and skills. One is a nurse at Children’s Hospital, one is a vet-tech at a pet hospital, one is in medical school, one is in aerospace engineering, one is just beginning her career in politics and one is a graphic designer.
Do you have any pets? Tell us about them. Two English Springer Spaniels, Emma and Lucy and two cats, Ellis and Leo
What is the most unique thing about you?
I feel an intense connection to France and the French even though my heritage is Irish.
What is your favorite childhood memory?
I grew up in Edina and had horses, so rode as often as possible.
Who is your favorite sports team?
I’m not a fan of most professional sports but I love to cheer for Edina Hockey.
What’s your favorite vacation spot?
The Florida Keys – they’re so unique and bohemian, one eithers “gets” the Keys or they don’t.
If you could visit any place in the world where would that be and why?
Paris, France as often as possible because of the architecture, culture, language and people.
What is your most cherished possession?
I have two grandchildren, Joseph age 2 and Elinor age 5 months and while I don’t possess them, they’re cherished.
What is your motto or favorite quote to live by?
Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. What better words to live by for any type of event planner.
What has been your favorite Wedding and why?
I’m going to cop out and say too hard to choose. I do a lot of fabulous weddings both locally and destination and each one is incredible in their own way because of the location, the couple, or various aspects of the wedding that make it unique.
If you could describe yourself in 2 words what would they be?
Approachable and Calm
What are your hobbies, outside of your business?
Snorkeling, Scuba, Fishing & Kayaking
Are you involved with Charity work?
Tell us about it. Not now due to all my travels but I have been involved with Ronald McDonald House and Habitat for Humanity.
