She got shots that will hang on our walls for a lifetime to come and most of all she made the start to finish process stress free. We highly recommend her to any bride with great taste and a sense of style.” - Sam

“We did her custom photo-booth with a second photographer. It was a hit and we recommend every bride to book the photo-booth! For $500 bucks we couldn’t be happier with the silly and fun photos she got of all of our friends & family. The mini pictures were the perfect wedding favor for our guests to take home. The photo book our guests created is awesome and sits proudly in our living room- it’s always a good laugh! Thanks Ashleigh Rachel- you rock! – Christina

Learn a little bit more about Kelli Engstrom Photography:

My name is Kelli Engstrom, owner and award winning photographer of Kelli Engstrom Photography located in beautiful Crosslake, MN. Crosslake is in the heart of lake country and has provided me with a canvas in which to turn my lifelong passion for photography into a fulfilling career. I have been professionally taking portraits for 16 years and have loved every bit of it.

Through the years my business has grown with the help of repeat clients and word of mouth referrals. My career has led me down many paths where I have photographed a wide variety of events, such as weddings, family reunions, sporting events and expos to name a few. I do family, children’s, senior, team/individual and pet portraits as well as commercial stills.

Location portraits are one of my favorite types photo shoots. In my opinion it is the best way in which to capture the true essence of subject or client. It is truly a unique experience which I enjoy being a part of because it brings out the real smiles and emotions of the people being photographed. They are put at ease and truly enjoy the experience as I do.

Photographs capture a moment in time. They allow us to remember our families, the young who continue to grow and the old who have passed. They capture the times in our lives that are easily forgotten but remembered through a photograph. I enjoy sharing my passion for photography with my clients and am honored to have been a part of so many people’s joyous occasions; the birth of a child, the engagement of friends, the merging of families. Please join me with a walk into Kelli Engstrom Photography. In advance I say “Thank you!”

Interview with Matt & Amy Coppersmith

What inspires you?
Things that are different then the normal.  I like to be surprised, and it’s hard to do.  So when something is different then what is traditional or totally unique at an event, I get that kid-on-christmas-morning feeling of giddiness.  It makes me want to do a better job, or do something different myself.

Do you have any pets? Tell us about them.
Yes! We have two dogs (and 3 kids…do they count? Sometimes they act like wild animals!) We have a 10 year old Brittany named Zipper. We named him that because he literally zips around everywhere. He is full of energy and craziness.  He’s bred to be a hunting dog, but we’ve never taken him.  Loud sounds scare him.  We also have a puppy Akita named Bear.  He looks like a black bear, and is almost as big to.  Although he’s only 1 year old, he weighs about 100 pounds.  His favorite thing to do is chase Zipper around and chew on him.  (poor zipper)

What is the most unique thing about you?
I have two different colored eyes and I’m an identical twin.  People often approach my sister or myself, thinking that we are the other one.  We’ve both been hugged by people we don’t know, and stared at with strange expressions when someone can’t quite figure out what is different about us.

What has been your favorite Wedding and why?
My favorite wedding was one that we photographed in Greece.  It was my favorite not because of where it was, or what decorated the rooms, or what anyone wore.  It was my favorite because everything about the wedding was focused on family, and the uniting of the bride and grooms families as well as the couple.  In my mind, that’s what is really important, family.  The celebration lasted until the sun rose the next morning, and then we went to breakfast.  There wasn’t a dull moment the whole time I was there. Even grandma stayed until we left after breakfast!  The couple talked with everyone, danced with everyone. The bride spilled wine on her dress, and didn’t even care! They made sure everyone else was comfortable and taken care of.  It was definitely my favorite wedding!

What are your hobbies, outside of your business?
We have many, many, many hobbies here. It’s never a boring household or a dull day at the Coppersmith compound.  Amy plays volleyball, does pottery, knits, makes random crafts (kids costumes), plays piano and likes to work out.  Matthew builds wood boats (the kind you can actually use yourself) and random wood/metal projects, remodels and fixes things, has a train set in the basement (the really fancy, detailed kind with trees, mountains and people and buildings) and sings.  We are also a huge movie and video game household. We like to play Sky Landers, WOW and Mario Party.

Are you involved with Charity work? Tell us about it.
Yes! We work with the American Diabetes Association and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Amy has type 1 diabetes and is very passionate about helping out the diabetic community.   We volunteer as a family and as a business, raising money, photographing different events and raising awareness of the disease in any way we are able.

What is your favorite movie?
I have a few favorite movies. It all depends upon my mood.  The top choices are: The Sound of Music, Pride and Prejudice, Transformers, Empire Records, Mama Mia and anything with either Denzel Washington, Julie Andrews or Will Smith

I am often inspired by how two completely different entities can come together as one so harmoniously.  Such as city and country, complimentary colors, or how opposites attract.

At the age of 12 I started showing horses, and although I am not currently showing, I stay in the business by traveling around to regional shows to photograph the shows as well.

I am totally about supporting the home team so any Minnesota team especially Twins, Lynx, Timberwolves, and Vikings.

What is your motto or favorite quote to live by?
The grass is greener where you plant it.

Interview with Natalie Jennings

What is your favorite movie?
Hands down, Harold & Maude.  Watch it and it will give you some insight into how I view life.  It’s a beautiful story.

What are your hobbies, outside of your business?
I’m an insatiable reader.  I write, play guitar & trumpet, run, knit, cook, paint, travel, camp, hike, bike, hang out with my cats, family, and my wonderful husband.

What is your most cherished possession?
My good health!

Do you have any pets?  Tell us about them.
Coffee & Scotch are my cats.  I didn’t grow up with cats and always preferred dogs, but somehow I ended up with a roommate in college who had a cat that I fell in love with.  My cats were adopted from the Hawaiian Humane Society in Honolulu where I lived for 6 years.  They just celebrated their 8th birthday!

What inspires you?
Good music, nature, love, and real things.  Couples holding hands after decades of marriage, the industrious attitudes of birds, morning coffee, my husband.

If you could describe yourself in 2 words, what would they be?
Compassionate & Curious

How did you get your start in the business?
I went undergraduate and graduate school, graduated with my masters in education and taught fish school English before I became a full-time photographer.  It was an easy decision and I was encouraged by my husband to “go for it” and see what happens.  So I did.

Photography and owning my own business feels so right, so me.  It is a perfect blend of creativity and organization, meeting people and being alone editing.  I really love what I do and hope my clients love the photographs I create for them.

Learn a little bit more about Natalie Champa Jennings Photography:

My name is Natalie and I’m the founder and lead photographer at Natalie Champa Jennings Photography. Although I am based in the Twin Cities, I have worked in Scotland, Kosovo, New Orleans, Portland, Ottawa, Bayfield and dozens of places in between. So if a destination wedding is in your plans, I’m delighted to travel.

I have a passion for all things art, as well as interacting with people. Professional photography allows me the perfect opportunity to meet amazing people from all over the world and indulge my creative side, too.

I try my best to deliver images with my distinct style and edge. I’m fascinated that no two photographers will shoot and process an image the same way, and I’m hoping that my unique style will bring enjoyment to my clients and those just browsing my site.

I want to make sure the effort and creativity you’ve put into planning your wedding is forever reflected in your photographs. That’s why I do not charge by the hour but will be there all day to capture everything, especially the beautiful candid moments that make a wedding day so fun and special. Not only does a full day of coverage allow for an excellent collection of photographs, but it helps appease extra wedding-planning anxiety allowing you to focus on your day instead of wondering if your photographer’s contract is going to run out and they’ll miss something.

Have a blast. Don’t stress. I’ve got it covered.

I hope you have an opportunity to look through my images at http://www.nataliechampajennings.com. There you will find not only wedding photography, but also a wide range of subject matter that reflects my interests and style.

Maris Ehlers Photography

Photography / Photographer
Interview with Maris Ehlers

What inspires you?
I am completely and wholeheartedly inspired by emotions.  I’m very passionate about my work and the people and topics I care about, and so I pour a lot of emotion and heart into what I do and what I believe.  That, and I’m a sucker for a good underdog story.

How did you get your start in the business?
Quite honestly, I fell in love with the art of photography first. The business part came much later.

Over fifteen years ago I bought my first “real” film SLR. Two of the very first pictures I took were of my nephew Ethan on his first birthday.  In the first he wasn’t looking at the camera, but had this wistful and innocent expression on his face, and in the second he was sitting up looking directly at me and his eyes simply sparkled. I remember being so excited to get the film developed.  I printed them both in black and white, and I still have those images today.

After that, photography became an addiction, one that I happily still have.  I became obsessed with improving my skills and different ways to shoot and to capture what I was feeling and seeing, and that is when I started investing in educating myself about the art an science of photography.  That focus on educating myself on current technology and trends has never stopped, and never will.

People think that photographers often start photographing weddings because they love eating with strangers and watching them dance at receptions every Saturday night, but honestly, that’s not true.  We fall in love with the way we learn to use a camera to express how we feel about what we are experiencing, the way we see the world. And we get to do just that – for 8-10 hours at a stretch. Seriously! What’s not to love about that?  The beauty is that each one is so different, which means it never gets old.  I’m always excited to see what a wedding will be like.

I eventually realized, however, that there is a lot more to running a photography business than simply taking great pictures, and most of it centers around how you deal with and treat your clients.  I understand and do not take for granted the fact that my clients are making a significant investment in me as their wedding photographer, and so I do the same – I invest in my relationship with them, and it has never failed me.  Not once.

Do you have any kids? Tell us about them.
My husband and I have two children.  Hunter, who is nearly nine, and Amelia, who is seven.  They amaze, delight, frustrate and inspire us – often all at the same time.  They are wonderful little people, and I can’t imagine life without them.

What is the most unique thing about you?
I don’t necessarily view the world the way most people do. I can connect dots that others don’t see, which means I always see opportunity, or what could be.  It is a big part of what makes me good at what I do, and it has helped me accomplish a lot of things I wouldn’t have been able to otherwise.  When I was young though, it meant that I didn’t really fit in because what I wasn’t interested in or motivated by what my peers were.  It’s still that way today, but luckily I work in a field where this type of thinking can be very valuable.

What has been your favorite wedding and why?
That is a tough question!  However, I’d have to say a small wedding that I photographed several years ago.  The groom had been in the Army and was serving in Iraq. The wedding was scheduled for just a few days after his arrival home for good.  It was a simple and sweet wedding, but I’ll always remember two things about it:  The bride entered to the theme song from Cinderella, because her dreams really were coming true, and the couple walked aisle by aisle, chair by chair and served each guest communion.  It was such a loving gesture of serving others, and that little room held an awful lot of love.

If you could describe yourself in 2 words what would they be?
Creative and tough.

Are you involved with Charity work? Tell us about it.
We are.  We work with Images for a Cure (benefits the Breast Cancer Research Fund), we are members of the American Child Photographer’s Charity Guild (where we donate our time and services to photograph terminally ill children and newborns, or those who have died during or shortly after birth), and we are CURRENTLY trying to create a fundraiser for Caring Bridge in honor of our senior high school client Zoe, who is battling Hodgkins Lymphoma.  Preventing teen suicide is also extremely close to my heart, and I speak nationally and locally about it to various groups, especially as it relates to LGBT youth.

Interview with Lucas & Ann Botz

Do you have any kids? Tell us about them.
We have 3 awesome kids!  Mia is 5 and is a sassy, stylish girlie girl who love to help and is a caretaker.  Shepard is our wild man.  He’s 3 and his nickname is “Danger Ranger”.  It’s fitting.  Gloria is 6 months old, and is hands down THE happiest kid ever.  We have no idea how the heck she is so amazing, but she is.  Ever see a baby smile while they whine?  Yah, she does.

What inspires you?
We’re inspired by joy.  Honestly, we feel it such an honor to spend any amount of time with a couple as they begin their life together.  Weddings can be stressful, dramatic, and tiring as much fun as they are.  We aim to take the couple that day, and allow them to spend time together, in love… celebrating their lives.  We try to eek out every ounce of joy from that day, capture it, and bring it back to them with a finished product.

Do you have any pets? Tell us about them.
Moses the Pug is our “first baby”.  He was the trial run for kids, and ended up being way more spoiled than our kids.  If it were up to Anna, we’d have a small zoo.

Who is your favorite sports team?
We have a weakness for our hometown Minnesota teams.  Heartbreak and MN sports seem to go hand in hand, yet we hang on!

What are your hobbies, outside of your business?
Most of our free time involves family.  We love to camp together, cheer on our teams, Anna loves to sew, knit and get creative that way.

Are you involved with Charity work? Tell us about it.
We’ve been involved with a youth organization called Side By Side Ministries for over 12 years.  We are a family, and have been so blessed by the students we’ve gotten to know through our work there.  They do amazing work, allowing students to be known and loved for who they are, we are fortunate to be a part of it.

We love: Family, travel, Legos, baking, baked potatoes & doing dinosaur impressions.

Our Philosophy

Joy. We believe that photography should be about sharing, experiencing, spreading and catching Joy. Whether it be your wedding day, engagement session, family or senior portraits, let your true self be caught on camera. Interview with Jared Anderson

What inspires you?
Every single couple of mine inspires me, to be able to see and capture their unconditional love is one of the biggest joys of my job!

Who is the person you’d most like to meet or spend the day with and why?
Jerry Ghionis – one of the world’s best wedding photographers.  I will be doing his workshop this July to better my photography skills to better serve my future brides and grooms.

Do you have any pets?  Tell us about them.
I have a 2-year old pure bred black lab named Drake.  I spend a lot of time with him during the week, he runs 4 miles every morning, gets to swimming 3-4 times a week in the summer after his run.  He’s one of the most well-behaved dogs you’ll ever meet and he will lick your face off with so much love!

If you could visit any place in the world where would that be and why?
I’ve always wanted to photograph a wedding in a castle in Germany, or a wine vineyard in Italy, simply because of the amazing scenery.

What is your motto or favorite quote to live by?
Live every day like it’s your last, because tomorrow you might not be here.  Never take advantage of having someone around for that same reason, one day they might not be here.  Live with no regrets.

What has been your favorite Wedding and why?
One of my favorite weddings was just over a month ago (December 3, 2011) in St. Lucia, it was almost the same group of people I photographed in Puerto Rico the year before and we just all had a blast together and got some amazing images.

What are your hobbies, outside of your business?
I love riding motorcycle and doing day trips all around Minnesota and Wisconsin just riding aimlessly and going wherever the road takes me.  I also love being out on my boat, (born and raised on the river), grilling out, cold adult beverages and sun, and also being around friends laughing!  It doesn’t get much better than that.

A brief introduction to Jared Lee Photography:

Images preserve a moment in time that can never be duplicated. Whether created on film or a chip, professionally taken photographs inspire joy and stimulate the emotions, even at a glance. It is my goal not only to serve the needs of my clients today, but also to aggressively research and develop products and services that will meet their needs in the future. My vision for the future is to reach and maintain the highest level of excellence in professional imaging.

I specialize in photojournalistic style weddings, senior and family portraits. My photography is always tailored to meet your needs and desires. I never do a formal group portrait once your party has started. My philosophy is to be low key and unobtrusive, yet there for every important photograph. If you desire, I will be happy to advice and work with you on every aspect of your wedding day to make it an enjoyable and memorable event.

My cameras are state of the art Canon, the finest in the industry, assuring you of the sharpest and best color photography available. I work with many lenses from extreme wide angle to long telephotos. I am equipped to handle any situation. My back up equipment is the same as my primary equipment, so in the unlikely event of equipment failure, there will be no loss of picture quality.

As I see it, there are three equally important aspects to photography: equipment, technique, and creative vision. Neither one is useful without the other. Having creative vision without the tools necessary to adequately bring it to life is one of the greatest possible frustrations. Having tools and technique without the creative vision is one of the greatest possible wastes of time and money.

If you could describe yourself in 2 words what would they be?Integrity and Happy. I believe in being completely honest and having good communication. There is nothing I want more than to make my brides happy and to help them know they can trust me. I chose happy because, well, why not be? You can make a choice when you wake up every morning to be happy or sad or whatever else. Its up to you. Some days are always harder than other, but it is always better if you choose to try your utmost to be happy, enthusiastically so in my case! :D
Do you have any pets? Tell us about them.
MM! My dog Coach! He is the comic relief of our life! He’s a Blue Heeler/Jack Russell mix that we picked up from a farm in Nebraska. He cuddles with me every night and he runs very very fast. After watching secretariat my husband asked me if I would sell Coach for 8 million dollars. I couldn’t even think about it because it made me so sad! Love that little guy.

What is the most unique thing about you?
I’m a green FREAK. I have a dream to build a house and have an acreage that is completely self sustainable. Solar panels, cows, goats, chickens and most definitely my own garden. I love being eco-friendly in every aspect of my life and my photography business!

What is your favorite vacation spot?
A new one! The only states I haven’t been to are Hawaii and Alabama. I’ve been to Thailand, the Netherlands, Canada, Mexico, Korea and Nicaragua. I absolutely love going to new places and experiencing different cultures.

If you could visit any place in the world where would it be and why?
High on my list is the Great Barrier Reef because it won’t be around much longer. While I’m at it I will probably back pack New Zealand and go into Aborigine land.

What is your most cherished possession?
Ever since I was a little girl my father ingrained in me that they are all just things. Whenever I broke the mirror off of his truck, or lost my moms earrings etc that is what my dad would tell me, they are all just things. Even though I love things, almost everything can be replaced. My favorite things that are mine are definitely my wedding pictures, which would be pretty impossible to replace, so I have copies in multiple locations!

What is your motto or favorite quote to live by?
“That it will never come again is what makes life so sweet” – Emily Dickenson. So live life up! (and take lots of pictures!)

A little bit about Jenni O Photography:

I am an Eco-Friendly Photographer!

I love keeping everything in my life as earth friendly as possible, especially my business! This is so easy to do in Minneapolis. I can really tell that people in this state really care about the effect they have on the environment. I know its super trendy right now, and that’s pretty much why I never mentioned it before. I wanted to be an eco-friendly business just to be an eco-friendly business. However, I feel like its important for my clients to know!

One way I am green is that I print through an eco-friendly printing company. Many professional printing companies out there use harmful inks, paper that isn’t made from very renewable sources, and don’t take extra precautions to make them green. The company I use, not only has phenomenal prints, but really cares about what effect their business has on the environment.

For all my wedding packages you will get a dvd of high resolution images. I go through Loktah, whose statement in their logo is: “Rising from the Earth | Natural Media Products”, to make sure all the packaging of those dvd’s are as green as possible. I also do high res images for portrait shoots, feel free to ask for the pricing! Gosh, I’m so excited about these dvd cases and sleeves I want to keep them all for myself. I won’t, but I want to! My albums that I use for weddings are the greenest and most unique out there! Wild Magnolia Designs really cares about taking care of the earth and making exquisite albums. I’m so totally obsessed with them! Here is their green statement: https://wildmagnoliadesign.com/green. I really could rave about them all day long, and have done so in my blog, feel free to check it out! Those are the 3 biggest ways that I have gone green. Smaller things I have done/am doing are: I use rechargeable batteries. I offer frames made out of recycled/reclaimed wood. I buy products made locally whenever possible. I use natural light as often as possible (in shooting, in my studio, and in my own home) I avoid turning on lights as much as possible. I also turn of anything that isn’t in use, including my computer. I use earth friendly cleaning products in my studio and in my home. I am almost paperless, booking weddings, and paying invoices is done online. I utilize online proofing galleries as opposed to the wasteful printed proof alternative. Any necessary printing is done on recycled paper. I recycle but I also reuse, I reuse cardboard boxes or donate them, I reuse packing supplies, etc. etc. I recycle ink cartridges and dvds. I do all my banking online. I am working on becoming a member of http://www.greenerphotography.org. I even take my bike when I can, my motorcycle when its too far to bike, and my car only when its too far for my little motorcycle. I not only try to by local things in my business, I try to do it as much as possible in my home life as well, grass fed local cows, farmers market shopping, and anything else I can think of. I find it my responsibility to make my carbon footprint as small as possible in my business and in my home life. And not only is being eco-friendly great for the environment, BUT the products I use are super unique and fun!

A Little About Me

I went to school in Iowa at a small liberal arts college (Northwestern College). Of course, as like most photographers, I have loved photography since my first film camera when I was 10. O.K. so 10 is a guess, I have no idea when I got it. In college I became the photo editor of our newspaper and fell in love with Digital Photography.

I studied film as well, but digital is so multi-faceted that I can’t escape from it. I started my professional business while I was in college but did not name it Jenni O Photography until after I was engaged in 2008.

I am creative, loving, and genuine. I will capture you and your personality in a unique, classy way.

I love relationships and I love making them show through a photo. Did I say that I love love?

Here are 10 random things about me:

1. I’ve lived in Thailand, the Asian culture enthralls me.
2. I love dancing to music in my living room. My husband joins me.
3. I hate potatoes. I think it’s a texture thing.
4. I will do anything for good chocolate, or a good piece of corn on the cob, oh! And sushi!
5. I have a very special place in my heart for the mountains.
6. Unique is my favorite word, I believe everyone should revel in their uniqueness.
7. I laugh at “that’s what she said” jokes
8. I like a lot of music, but indie is my fav. Did you know Ingrid Michaelson didn’t use a record company? She’s probably a gazilionaire.
9. God and Family are the two most important things in my life.
10. My hair changes color often, though not on its own accord.
11. I’ve climbed longs peak and got all the way to the key hole.
12. I’ve always wanted a tattoo, but I am petrified of needles.
13. I’m pretty funny, but not all the time, which is unfortunate.
14. I am teaching myself American Sign Language.
O.K. so that’s 14… I got carried away and now I can’t figure out which one to delete.
