Culinary Services / Catering
Interview with Lisa Brenna
Who is the person you’d most like to meet or spend the day with and why?
Gordon Ramsey – His love for food explodes on camera and I can only imagine what the experience would be like in person. He makes tough decisions everyday and I would love to know how he does it. To be a guest and dine with him in one of his restaurants would be amazing!
How did you get your start in the business?
My first job ever was a banquet server at our local college. I had to dress up in a brown sack and serve soup to our guests. The theme of the event was a Renaissance theme, so all the servers were peasants! When I was in college myself, I found a job catering as well. I thought if I could serve soup as a peasant, I definitely could serve wedding guests in a tuxedo!
What is your favorite childhood memory?
Every Fourth of July at my grandparents house in northern WI. The whole family would sit on the dock lakeside and watch the city fireworks at the beach. I think we were the loudest group on the lake with all the “oohs” and “awes.”
Who is your favorite sports team?
The Green Bay Packers! I was born and raised in WI and being a packer fan is almost a law!
What is your motto or favorite quote to live by?
“When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one, which has been opened for us.” - Helen Keller -
Are you involved with Charity work?
Whenever I get my hair cut, I donate it to “Locks of Love”, if they’ll take it! They take hair donations to make wigs for people who really need it. I also donate to the JDRF(Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund). Being a diabetic myself for 25 years, it has always been a passion of mine to someday find a cure! I also support our troops as The Honorary Chief Commander for the 934th Airlift Wing in Minneapolis.

Interview with Jenna Ferguson and Sari Lindeman
How did you get your start in the business?
Jenna: After graduating from the College of St. Benedict/St. John’s University, I began as an intern at Bellagala winter 2010. I was hired on shortly after as a part-time Wedding Consultant, and slowly transitioned to a full-time Sales Coordinator. I also started doing Event Planning through Bellagala this past winter.
Sari: I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to be a Sales & Events intern at Bellagala following college. I was able to continue with the sales team after my internship as a full-time employee. It’s the perfect fit!
What is the most unique thing about you?
Sari: I studied in Japan during college and I am able to speak fluent Japanese!
What is your favorite childhood memory?
Jenna: I have many great memories of family trips to Puerto Rico, to visit my grandparents who were “snow birds” there. Oh, and Barbies. I played lots and lots with Barbies with my sister Kelli, as a kid…
What’s your favorite vacation spot?
Sari: Sitting on the dock at my family’s cabin on Lake Vermilion. The only things you see are boats, loons and water!
What is your most cherished possession?
Jenna: An inscribed rosary from my Nana that she had blessed in Rome, one for each of her 10 “grandbabies.” For the girls, it’s meant to be our “Something Old” when we get married… (hopefully someday soon)
What is your motto or favorite quote to live by?
Jenna: “Be happy for this moment, for this moment is your life.” I surround myself with positive, happy people who share this same belief! I’m also fond of, “Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right.” So true.
What has been your favorite Wedding and why?
Sari: My brother’s wedding in Portland, Oregon was a blast to be a part of. It may have actually been the first wedding where I never left the dance floor! To have all of our family and closest friends make the trip out there made it all the more special. Plus the scenery was breathtaking!
What is your favorite color?
Jenna: This is ever-changing, and usually can be determined by the color of my nail polish. Currently, it’s a “Caliente Coral” by OPI. Mint is pretty too!
Sari: Coral! It has a pretty and romantic feminine base with a splash of modern flair.

Maris Ehlers Photography
TCBA Member Expert
Photography / Photographer
Interview with Maris Ehlers
What inspires you?
I am completely and wholeheartedly inspired by emotions. I’m very passionate about my work and the people and topics I care about, and so I pour a lot of emotion and heart into what I do and what I believe. That, and I’m a sucker for a good underdog story.
How did you get your start in the business?
Quite honestly, I fell in love with the art of photography first. The business part came much later.
Over fifteen years ago I bought my first “real” film SLR. Two of the very first pictures I took were of my nephew Ethan on his first birthday. In the first he wasn’t looking at the camera, but had this wistful and innocent expression on his face, and in the second he was sitting up looking directly at me and his eyes simply sparkled. I remember being so excited to get the film developed. I printed them both in black and white, and I still have those images today.
After that, photography became an addiction, one that I happily still have. I became obsessed with improving my skills and different ways to shoot and to capture what I was feeling and seeing, and that is when I started investing in educating myself about the art an science of photography. That focus on educating myself on current technology and trends has never stopped, and never will.
People think that photographers often start photographing weddings because they love eating with strangers and watching them dance at receptions every Saturday night, but honestly, that’s not true. We fall in love with the way we learn to use a camera to express how we feel about what we are experiencing, the way we see the world. And we get to do just that – for 8-10 hours at a stretch. Seriously! What’s not to love about that? The beauty is that each one is so different, which means it never gets old. I’m always excited to see what a wedding will be like.
I eventually realized, however, that there is a lot more to running a photography business than simply taking great pictures, and most of it centers around how you deal with and treat your clients. I understand and do not take for granted the fact that my clients are making a significant investment in me as their wedding photographer, and so I do the same – I invest in my relationship with them, and it has never failed me. Not once.
Do you have any kids? Tell us about them.
My husband and I have two children. Hunter, who is nearly nine, and Amelia, who is seven. They amaze, delight, frustrate and inspire us – often all at the same time. They are wonderful little people, and I can’t imagine life without them.
What is the most unique thing about you?
I don’t necessarily view the world the way most people do. I can connect dots that others don’t see, which means I always see opportunity, or what could be. It is a big part of what makes me good at what I do, and it has helped me accomplish a lot of things I wouldn’t have been able to otherwise. When I was young though, it meant that I didn’t really fit in because what I wasn’t interested in or motivated by what my peers were. It’s still that way today, but luckily I work in a field where this type of thinking can be very valuable.
What has been your favorite wedding and why?
That is a tough question! However, I’d have to say a small wedding that I photographed several years ago. The groom had been in the Army and was serving in Iraq. The wedding was scheduled for just a few days after his arrival home for good. It was a simple and sweet wedding, but I’ll always remember two things about it: The bride entered to the theme song from Cinderella, because her dreams really were coming true, and the couple walked aisle by aisle, chair by chair and served each guest communion. It was such a loving gesture of serving others, and that little room held an awful lot of love.
If you could describe yourself in 2 words what would they be?
Creative and tough.
Are you involved with Charity work? Tell us about it.
We are. We work with Images for a Cure (benefits the Breast Cancer Research Fund), we are members of the American Child Photographer’s Charity Guild (where we donate our time and services to photograph terminally ill children and newborns, or those who have died during or shortly after birth), and we are CURRENTLY trying to create a fundraiser for Caring Bridge in honor of our senior high school client Zoe, who is battling Hodgkins Lymphoma. Preventing teen suicide is also extremely close to my heart, and I speak nationally and locally about it to various groups, especially as it relates to LGBT youth.

Interview with Tim Ellenbecker
What inspires you?
My goal is to enable people to personalize items to enhance their beauty and add personal significance. To that end, I enjoy playing with new materials and trying out alternative techniques to see what kind of effect can be achieved. Recently I was allowed to use a new software program that will replace a photograph with text, so that is what I currently am having fun experimenting with.
How did you get your start in the business?
I have over 10 years of laser experience and I have a very artistic family. When I decided to start my own business, it seemed natural to blend the two. Now with my laser engraver I have the opportunity to transform memories and create beautiful keepsakes for wonderful people and I couldn’t be happier.
What is the most unique wedding you have been a part of?
One of my college friends is a Muslim and a few years ago he married a lovely Jewish girl. Coming from a Catholic background myself, I was intrigued with the way the two of them blended different ceremonies and family customs into their wedding. The experience was delightful and educational … and a whole lot of fun.
What’s your favorite vacation spot?
When we went to Portland, Oregon there was one attraction in particular that has stuck with me, the Japanese Gardens. Reportedly these are the best gardens outside of Japan, and they are truly beautiful. There were at least five distinct zones that each had their own unique look and feel. If you like tranquil surroundings and have even a passing interest in Japanese culture, I highly recommend it.
If you could visit any place in the world where would that be and why?
I think it would be fun to go to New Zealand and tour all the beautiful locations where the Lord of the Rings was filmed.
What is your motto or favorite quote to live by?
I like to say “Happy wife, happy life.” I am not sure where I first heard it, but when I bring it up I get such a wide range of reactions that it makes for fun conversation.
Are you involved with Charity work? Tell us about it.
I have been a volunteer Cub Scout leader for many years now. At one point I was mentoring over 50 boys, giving them opportunities to explore nature and learn new skills. Often I found that the parents were learning as much as the boys, though sometimes the lessons were different. I had one high spirited young lad that showed a significant amount of interest in geology during a cave tour; his parents and I decided to encourage this and quickly it became the boy’s best subject and a grounding point for improving his grades overall. Geology never did replace his first love (skateboarding), but then again it didn’t really need to. In addition to scouting, I am an active supporter of the American Diabetes Association. One of my little sisters was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in her early teens and our entire family has rallied around her.

Ceremony & Planning/Marriage & Preparation
Interview with Kimberly Miller
What inspires you?
My parents inspire me. They have been married for 40 years. As my husband and I just celebrated our tenth wedding anniversary, I am so happy for my parents and inspired by the way that their love and respect for each other has grown over the years. I spend my days working with couples just starting out on their life journey together. I love putting their journeys in perspective and helping them focus on what really matters so everyone can reach marriage milestones of 40 years and more!
How did you get your start in the business?
I started my professional career as a lawyer specializing in helping families transition through divorce. After years of seeing marriages end, I decided I would be more fulfilled and have more to offer couples starting their marriages. By helping couples strengthen their relationships and build a strong foundation, I hope to help couples avoid the devastation that can come from the end of relationships.
Do you have any kids? Tell us about them.
I have three children so I really understand the challenges of balancing roles – as a wife, mother and business owner. My oldest daughter is 8 and loves to play the violin and swim. She reads everything (her recent favorite is Harry Potter). My middle son is 6 and just finishing kindergarten. He loves to read too (The Boxcar Children) and he is a great tennis player. He has the most energy of all. My youngest son is 3 and he is our comedian. He loves to make people laugh and loves to snuggle (especially with his mom). I love it!
What is the most unique thing about you?
I think I am the only attorney/therapist in town who specializes in working with couples. There was a recent article in the New York Times saying that it takes a directive, strong therapist to work well with couples. The therapist has to help guide the couple together and help them face some of their challenges. I think my years as an attorney and litigator in court has really helped me be a better therapist and provide a better service to couples.
If you could describe yourself in 2 words what would they be?
Logical and insightful.

Flowers are an integral part of creating the perfect atmosphere for your union. From small and intimate events to large, grand occasions Liesl B Floral Design strives to exceed your expectations. My greatest joy as a designer is working with couples to create custom floral designs that bring your vision to life!
You dream it… I’ll create it.
