Interview with the Sales & Catering Team

How did you get your start in the business?
Stephanie: There are quite a few reasons that contribute to where I am today.  When I was a little girl, my Dad had annual conferences that could be held anywhere in the country.  I loved going with and seeing all the events that took place – I was very intrigued by the organization and extravagance!  This later spurred me to go to UW Stout and obtain a degree in Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management.  After graduation, I worked as a wedding planner in LaCrosse, Wisconsin and loved working with weddings!  When my husband and I moved to St. Paul, I was excited to take a position as a Catering Manager for the Ramada Plaza to see what happened on this side of the wedding industry!
Amanda: I started working for the Ramada Plaza at the front desk and, through promotions, made my way to the Catering Sales Manager position I hold today.  I’ve seen this property through a transition of ownerships and renovations.  Having the opportunity to work with wedding couples is what I enjoy the most about my job.

Do you have any pets?  Tell us about them.
Stephanie: My husband and I have a Swiss Mountain Dog named Osa.  She is a big beautiful dog who loves walks, playing fetch, and sleeping – especially if she can sleep on our bed!  We also have a big orange cat named Oscar.  He loves to snuggle all the time!
Amanda: I have a Shiba Inu/Rat Terrier mix named Chewie.  He is a small (20 pound) bundle of energy!  His latest trick is jumping through a hula hoop, and we think he would be a great dog for any agility courses.

If you could visit any place in the world where would that be and why?
Stephanie: My husband and I just went on a long-awaited-for trip to Switzerland and Italy.  It was absolutely amazing!  So now we are trying to decide what the next big trip will be – Sweden, England, Australia, Africa???  Hopefully all of them someday!
Amanda: The coast of Greece, hands down!  The beautiful white stone buildings near the deep blue water are what draw me to that area of the world.  Of course, I’d also like to see historical attractions like the Parthenon.

What is your motto or favorite quote to live by?  
Stephanie: “Sing like no one’s listening, love like you’ve never been hurt, dance like nobody’s watching and live like it’s heaven on earth.”  Mark Twain
Amanda: I have a couple favorite quotes.  One is from Mother Teresa, “Never let anyone come to you without leaving better or happier.”  The other I saw on the wall of a TGI Fridays years ago… “I’m not afraid of tomorrow for I’ve seen yesterday and I love today.”

What are your hobbies, outside of your business?
Stephanie: I love to read!  Especially if I can read on my porch swing or outside.  I enjoy the outdoors including: camping, fishing, and taking our dog for hikes.
Amanda: Photography has been a passion of mine for over 10 years now.  I’m very interested in the photographic process and especially black and white photography.  I spend some of my free time studying and making my art.
