Who is the person you’d most like to meet or spend the day with and why?
I love to hear people who have overcome obstacles & found success.

How did you get your start in the business?
I was a Freelance artist and Educator at 18.

What is the most unique wedding you have been a part of?
I have 4 daughters, 3 married in one year – we had to find their individual styles.

Do you have any kids? Tell us about them.
Yes, 4 daughters and 12 grandkids – 6 boys, 6 girls… I’m sure I have some artists in the group!

What is the most unique thing about you?
I am driven to help others and passionate about their dreams.

What is your favorite childhood memory?
Playing dress up.

What is your motto or favorite quote to live by?
It’s just makeup – we say that a lot here at Faces Etc, of MN

If you could describe yourself in 2 words what would they be?
Passionate & Focused

Are you involved with Charity work? Tell us about it.
Yes, Faces Etc, of MN is working with a group in Batam, Indonesia on Human Trafficking - we are very involved in this most impoverished nation in the world – I am going again in May and we are going to help build an Orphanage.

Interview with Jared Anderson

What inspires you?
Every single couple of mine inspires me, to be able to see and capture their unconditional love is one of the biggest joys of my job!

Who is the person you’d most like to meet or spend the day with and why?
Jerry Ghionis – one of the world’s best wedding photographers. I will be doing his workshop this July to better my photography skills to better serve my future brides and grooms.

Do you have any pets? Tell us about them.
I have a 2-year old pure bred black lab named Drake. I spend a lot of time with him during the week, he runs 4 miles every morning, gets to swimming 3-4 times a week in the summer after his run. He’s one of the most well-behaved dogs you’ll ever meet and he will lick your face off with so much love!

If you could visit any place in the world where would that be and why?
I’ve always wanted to photograph a wedding in a castle in Germany, or a wine vineyard in Italy, simply because of the amazing scenery.

What is your motto or favorite quote to live by?
Live every day like it’s your last, because tomorrow you might not be here. Never take advantage of having someone around for that same reason, one day they might not be here. Live with no regrets.

What has been your favorite Wedding and why?
One of my favorite weddings was just over a month ago (December 3, 2011) in St. Lucia, it was almost the same group of people I photographed in Puerto Rico the year before and we just all had a blast together and got some amazing images.

What are your hobbies, outside of your business?
I love riding motorcycle and doing day trips all around Minnesota and Wisconsin just riding aimlessly and going wherever the road takes me. I also love being out on my boat, (born and raised on the river), grilling out, cold adult beverages and sun, and also being around friends laughing! It doesn’t get much better than that.

I specialize in photojournalistic style weddings, senior and family portraits. My photography is always tailored to meet your needs and desires. I never do a formal group portrait once your party has started. My philosophy is to be low key and unobtrusive, yet there for every important photograph. If you desire, I will be happy to advice and work with you on every aspect of your wedding day to make it an enjoyable and memorable event.

My cameras are state of the art Canon, the finest in the industry, assuring you of the sharpest and best color photography available. I work with many lenses from extreme wide angle to long telephotos. I am equipped to handle any situation. My back up equipment is the same as my primary equipment, so in the unlikely event of equipment failure, there will be no loss of picture quality.

As I see it, there are three equally important aspects to photography: equipment, technique, and creative vision. Neither one is useful without the other. Having creative vision without the tools necessary to adequately bring it to life is one of the greatest possible frustrations. Having tools and technique without the creative vision is one of the greatest possible wastes of time and money.

Do you have any kids? Tell us about them.
Two beautiful baby girls. Natalie (2 years) is my little strawberry-blonde with all the personality and determination that comes with her hair color. Giatta (10 months) is full of energy and continuous smiles. They both light up any room – steal the hearts of those they meet.

What is your motto or favorite quote to live by?
“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.”

Passionate & Genuine

What are your hobbies, outside of your business?
I love to be active… through fitness (especially running), traveling, spending time with friends and family, meeting new people, shopping, decorating…. the list goes on and on. I’ll try anything once

Are you involved with Charity work? Tell us about it.
Yes, I donate a portion of each commission to Children’s Miracle Network, which locally goes to the Gillette Hospital. I also am involved with Habitat for Humanity and have helped build houses in Minnesota + 4 other states.

What is your favorite color?
Pink, pink and more pink. Good thing I have little girls!!

If you could describe yourself in 2 words what would they be?
I model my business after my two strengths. The two traits/words are “honest” and “consistently diligent!”

What is your favorite childhood memory?
There are two childhood memories. The first was constructing my very first wear-able dress at the age of 13. The second was growing up with 9 siblings and forming teams for multiple sports.

Who is your favorite sports team?
I am a sports fanatic, which comes to light through my fitness training business. Whether it’s a simple weight loss plan or an extravagant athletic goal, I’m here to make you better! My favorite sports team would be the Minnesota Machine… showing my loyalties to my favorite Women’s tackle football team here in the Twin Cities!

What is your motto or favorite quote to live by?
Everything I do is a reflection of my Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ. Without him I could do nothing. With this faith I humbly trust where he leads me.

What inspires you?
What inspires me the most is helping people! Either by helping them reach their personal goals or assisting in altering clothing.

How did you get your start in the business?
A good friend encouraged me to begin my own business because I have talents that are rare for an individual. I began sewing clothes at a very young age.

What is the most unique thing about you?
My past has molded me into who I am today. Growing up Amish has helped me have strong values and talented skills.

A brief introduction to Training Day:

In a time when society is filling us with countless obligations, there is little time for yet another commute to a fitness center or alterations shop. With the increase of heath and fitness awareness on the rise, you are now able to turn to a new avenue of consistent fitness protocols that meets with you at the most convenient location; your home.

Research shows that as few as three percent of regular gym members actually reach their targeted goals. Many only attend up to two months after they obtain their fitness membership and continue paying gym fees for years. Without the knowledge of how ones nutritional needs and fitness goals interact, many individuals have a tendency to exercise too hard, not hard enough or they exercise too long, not long enough. Life is filled with many unknowns. Improving one’s health and wellness should not be one of them.

Training Day is about providing life long encouragement and accountability to you through consistency and trust. Many females go through life wishing and dreaming of having the perfect physique. My goal is to educate you on how to reach and maintain your operable genetic makeup through proper fitness and nutrition. By embracing your goals, this attainment will be reached through my commitment to you and provide the ongoing support needed to encourage confidence and a mental edge for living a successful career in athletics and/or in improving your quality of life.

Survivors! Adversity builds character! People who have “chosen” to share their stories and insight coming through adversity.

I would have love to have met Mother Teresa. She was an amazing human being and a role model for my life!

How did you get your start in the business?
Saw an opportunity to make great money part-time and a car program! Was driving a company vehicle in just 6 months!

What is the most unique wedding you have been a part of?
Seeing a wedding in Las Vegas!! Short & Sweet!!

Do you have any kids? Tell us about them.
Daughter Sarah is 27 years old… beautiful Redhead with a strong desire to succeed! A 13 year old daughter, Kayla, who is an incredible athlete! And another 13 year old daughter, Savanna, who is amazingly creative.

Do you have any pets? Tell us about them.
Maltese named Misty. She is a sweet little dog that loves to wear clothes. She has over 40 outfits and hair accessories! Two flame point siamese cats named Dirty and Mr. C.

What is the most unique thing about you?
I am living without a Pancreas!! In 2009, I had an auto islet cell transplant… a miracle I believe!

What is your favorite childhood memory?
Camping with my family.

Who is your favorite sports team?
Twins!!

What’s your favorite vacation spot?
Hawaii – it is truly Paradise!

If you could visit any place in the world where would that be and why?
Any 3rd World Country to give of myself physically, emotionally and financially to show love, support & hope.

What is your most cherished possession?
Picture of my mother

What is your motto or favorite quote to live by?
“Work will win while wishing won’t!”

What has been your favorite Wedding and why?
My Mom’s to my Stepdad when I was five. I remember thinking my Mom was so beautiful and happy. I still have her wedding dress and matching shoes!!

What inspires you?
The enthusiasm of the couples I meet and work with – keeps me young!

How did you get your start in the business?
My husband and I renovated the lower level of The Gilbert Building – Lower Town St. Paul for our wedding reception on August 8, 2008.

Do you have any kids? Tell us about them.
One – Ryan is 30 years old and my one and only. Ryan just got married on January 1, 2011 and is a new “Dad” as of this November.

Do you have any pets? Tell us about them.
Ike & Ava – Ike is a Cairn Terrier and Ava is a Westie – total opposite personalities but they have so much fun together!

What is the most unique thing about you?
Using humor to get my point across.

Are you involved with Charity work? Tell us about it.
I just started working with Wish Upon a Wedding.

Interview with Jenni Ochsner

If you could describe yourself in 2 words what would they be?Integrity and Happy. I believe in being completely honest and having good communication. There is nothing I want more than to make my brides happy and to help them know they can trust me. I chose happy because, well, why not be? You can make a choice when you wake up every morning to be happy or sad or whatever else. Its up to you. Some days are always harder than other, but it is always better if you choose to try your utmost to be happy, enthusiastically so in my case!
Do you have any pets? Tell us about them.
MM! My dog Coach! He is the comic relief of our life! He’s a Blue Heeler/Jack Russell mix that we picked up from a farm in Nebraska. He cuddles with me every night and he runs very very fast. After watching secretariat my husband asked me if I would sell Coach for 8 million dollars. I couldn’t even think about it because it made me so sad! Love that little guy.

What is the most unique thing about you?
I’m a green FREAK. I have a dream to build a house and have an acreage that is completely self sustainable. Solar panels, cows, goats, chickens and most definitely my own garden. I love being eco-friendly in every aspect of my life and my photography business!

What is your favorite vacation spot?
A new one! The only states I haven’t been to are Hawaii and Alabama. I’ve been to Thailand, the Netherlands, Canada, Mexico, Korea and Nicaragua. I absolutely love going to new places and experiencing different cultures.

If you could visit any place in the world where would it be and why?
High on my list is the Great Barrier Reef because it won’t be around much longer. While I’m at it I will probably back pack New Zealand and go into Aborigine land.

What is your most cherished possession?
Ever since I was a little girl my father ingrained in me that they are all just things. Whenever I broke the mirror off of his truck, or lost my moms earrings etc that is what my dad would tell me, they are all just things. Even though I love things, almost everything can be replaced. My favorite things that are mine are definitely my wedding pictures, which would be pretty impossible to replace, so I have copies in multiple locations!

What is your motto or favorite quote to live by?
“That it will never come again is what makes life so sweet” – Emily Dickenson. So live life up! (and take lots of pictures!)

A little bit about Jenni O Photography:

I am an Eco-Friendly Photographer!

I love keeping everything in my life as earth friendly as possible, especially my business! This is so easy to do in Minneapolis. I can really tell that people in this state really care about the effect they have on the environment. I know its super trendy right now, and that’s pretty much why I never mentioned it before. I wanted to be an eco-friendly business just to be an eco-friendly business. However, I feel like its important for my clients to know!

One way I am green is that I print through an eco-friendly printing company. Many professional printing companies out there use harmful inks, paper that isn’t made from very renewable sources, and don’t take extra precautions to make them green. The company I use, not only has phenomenal prints, but really cares about what effect their business has on the environment.

For all my wedding packages you will get a dvd of high resolution images. I go through Loktah, whose statement in their logo is: “Rising from the Earth | Natural Media Products”, to make sure all the packaging of those dvd’s are as green as possible. I also do high res images for portrait shoots, feel free to ask for the pricing! Gosh, I’m so excited about these dvd cases and sleeves I want to keep them all for myself. I won’t, but I want to! My albums that I use for weddings are the greenest and most unique out there! Wild Magnolia Designs really cares about taking care of the earth and making exquisite albums. I really could rave about them all day long, and have done so in my blog, feel free to check it out! Those are the 3 biggest ways that I have gone green. Smaller things I have done/am doing are: I use rechargeable batteries. I offer frames made out of recycled/reclaimed wood. I buy products made locally whenever possible. I use natural light as often as possible (in shooting, in my studio, and in my own home) I avoid turning on lights as much as possible. I also turn of anything that isn’t in use, including my computer. I use earth friendly cleaning products in my studio and in my home. I am almost paperless, booking weddings, and paying invoices is done online. I utilize online proofing galleries as opposed to the wasteful printed proof alternative. Any necessary printing is done on recycled paper. I recycle but I also reuse, I reuse cardboard boxes or donate them, I reuse packing supplies, etc. etc. I recycle ink cartridges and dvds. I do all my banking online. I am working on becoming a member of www.greenerphotography.org. I even take my bike when I can, my motorcycle when its too far to bike, and my car only when its too far for my little motorcycle. I not only try to by local things in my business, I try to do it as much as possible in my home life as well, grass fed local cows, farmers market shopping, and anything else I can think of. I find it my responsibility to make my carbon footprint as small as possible in my business and in my home life. And not only is being eco-friendly great for the environment, BUT the products I use are super unique and fun!

A Little About Me

I went to school in Iowa at a small liberal arts college (Northwestern College). Of course, as like most photographers, I have loved photography since my first film camera when I was 10. O.K. so 10 is a guess, I have no idea when I got it. In college I became the photo editor of our newspaper and fell in love with Digital Photography.

I studied film as well, but digital is so multi-faceted that I can’t escape from it. I started my professional business while I was in college but did not name it Jenni O Photography until after I was engaged in 2008.

I am creative, loving, and genuine. I will capture you and your personality in a unique, classy way.

I love relationships and I love making them show through a photo. Did I say that I love love?

Here are 10 random things about me:

1. I’ve lived in Thailand, the Asian culture enthralls me.
2. I love dancing to music in my living room. My husband joins me.
3. I hate potatoes. I think it’s a texture thing.
4. I will do anything for good chocolate, or a good piece of corn on the cob, oh! And sushi!
5. I have a very special place in my heart for the mountains.
6. Unique is my favorite word, I believe everyone should revel in their uniqueness.
7. I laugh at “that’s what she said” jokes
8. I like a lot of music, but indie is my fav. Did you know Ingrid Michaelson didn’t use a record company? She’s probably a gazilionaire.
9. God and Family are the two most important things in my life.
10. My hair changes color often, though not on its own accord.
11. I’ve climbed longs peak and got all the way to the key hole.
12. I’ve always wanted a tattoo, but I am petrified of needles.
13. I’m pretty funny, but not all the time, which is unfortunate.
14. I am teaching myself American Sign Language.
O.K. so that’s 14… I got carried away and now I can’t figure out which one to delete.

What inspires you?
New and creative ideas merged into unique and fabulous wedding flowers.

Who is the person you’d most like to meet or spend a day with and why?
Goldie Hawn – She has had a challenged life followed by success. I would like to meet her and tell her how she inspired me.

How did you get your start in the business?
I worked at a floral shop in High School. It was always my passion to own my own shop. Here I am 35 years later living my dream.

Do you have any kids? Tell us about them?
I have 3 children, all grown up. One computer genius, one auto mechanic genius and one works for the airline and I can fly almost free! I am set! Also, 5 grandkids to keep me busy.

Do you have any pets? Tell us about them.
I have 2 Labs, a yellow lab named Nala and a black lab named Shelby.

What is the most unique thing about you?
My favorite place to go is a cemetery.

What is your favorite childhood memory?
Spending time with my Dad.

Who is your favorite sports team?
Minnesota Twins – GO TWINS!

What’s your favorite vacation spot?
A cabana at a pool in Las Vegas.

If you could visit any place in the world where would that be and why?
Ireland – I would love to go and find relatives and see the country and find new friends at Local Pubs.

A case of Barbie Doll clothes my grandmother made me in the 1960′s.

Interview with Paula Pettis

What/Who inspires you?
My Dad. He is 85 and bought an iPad before I did. He sings, does the yard and house work, has served in almost every branch of the military in WWII, survived the Great Depression without enough food to eat, clothes to wear, lost their home and now he runs around with more energy than a 40-year old.

What is the most unique wedding you have been a part of?
We performed for a wedding with NO bride or groom! The guests were seated, the bridesmaids walked in, the readings were read and the Pastor spoke. It turned out that the Bride & Groom both had food poisoning and were in the hospital. The Pastor married them in their sick beds. Their family and friends video taped the whole service and then ate the cake and piled up the presents for them.

If you could visit any place in the world where would that be and why?
Everywhere! My Dad has traveled to over 150 countries and I’m trying to catch up to him. I’m only at 22 so far.

What are your hobbies, outside of your business?
Travel, genealogy, mathematics, stock market

What is your favorite color?
Yellow – it’s bright & cheerful.

A brief introduction to The Baroque Trio:

Sparkling, Elegant Sound! (Flute, Violin, Cello)

Three friends from the University of Minnesota formed the trio in 1989 under the name The University Baroque Trio. As the members changed and graduated, the trio developed into a professional ensemble. The Baroque Trio has performed on the Festival of Music Concert Series at the Church of the Epiphany, North Central University’s Faculty Recital Series, and the Peavey Plaza Series for the Minnesota Orchestra’s Viennese Sommerfest. In 1998 the trio played weekly for Sunday Brunches at Edinburgh USA.

Paula has completed both a Master of Music degree and a Bachelor of Music degree in Flute Performance at the University of Minnesota. She is an active performer, joining orchestras in concerts, preparing solos with piano, has recorded music for cable television, and has appeared as soloist with the Kenwood Symphony Orchestra. Paula teaches private flute lessons at North Central University, Evans Music & Sound, and St. Anthony-New Brighton Community Services. In addition to flute performance, she has completed a Major in Mathematics at the University of Minnesota. Paula joined the trio in 1989, and became the contact/manager in 1992.

Steve has completed a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Minnesota. He has studied with Young-Nam Kim and Mary West. Steve joined the trio in 1994.

Mara received her Bachelor of Music degree in Cello Performance from the University of Minnesota where she studied with Tanya Remenikova. She won first place in the Schubert Club and Sigma Alpha Iota Competitions, and was a member of the University of Minnesota’s Graduate String Quartet from 1997-1998. Currently she teaches cello at MacPhail Center for Music-Minneapolis & White Bear Lake, and in her home studio. Mara joined the trio in 1998.
