Interview with Kimberly Miller
What inspires you?
My parents inspire me. They have been married for 40 years. As my husband and I just celebrated our tenth wedding anniversary, I am so happy for my parents and inspired by the way that their love and respect for each other has grown over the years. I spend my days working with couples just starting out on their life journey together. I love putting their journeys in perspective and helping them focus on what really matters so everyone can reach marriage milestones of 40 years and more!
How did you get your start in the business?
I started my professional career as a lawyer specializing in helping families transition through divorce. After years of seeing marriages end, I decided I would be more fulfilled and have more to offer couples starting their marriages. By helping couples strengthen their relationships and build a strong foundation, I hope to help couples avoid the devastation that can come from the end of relationships.
Do you have any kids? Tell us about them.
I have three children so I really understand the challenges of balancing roles – as a wife, mother and business owner. My oldest daughter is 8 and loves to play the violin and swim. She reads everything (her recent favorite is Harry Potter). My middle son is 6 and just finishing kindergarten. He loves to read too (The Boxcar Children) and he is a great tennis player. He has the most energy of all. My youngest son is 3 and he is our comedian. He loves to make people laugh and loves to snuggle (especially with his mom). I love it!
What is the most unique thing about you?
I think I am the only attorney/therapist in town who specializes in working with couples. There was a recent article in the New York Times saying that it takes a directive, strong therapist to work well with couples. The therapist has to help guide the couple together and help them face some of their challenges. I think my years as an attorney and litigator in court has really helped me be a better therapist and provide a better service to couples.
If you could describe yourself in 2 words what would they be?
Logical and insightful.
